Pentecost of the Nations 2008

In 2008, let's do it together
 - united world-wide for 10 days
in Pentecost for the Nations
 - for a new culture of Pentecost

An answer that the worldwide Renewal offers in response to the desire expressed by both Popes John Paul II and Benedict XVI to spread the "culture of Pentecost" (JPII, May 2004 - Benedict XVI, Sept 2005)

Beginnings

In 2006, in preparation for the Pentecost meeting with Pope Benedict XVI, ICCRS called forth Operation Upper Room. In the last years, many countries and tens of thousands people on all continents have participated in this world-wide prayer event network. This year ICCRS is launching a two-part project - Pentecost of the Nations 2008 - for a new culture of Pentecost, which integrates Operation Upper Room, May 2-10, now with the Pentecost Day Celebration on May 11.

A two-part invitation

An invitation to return to the "Upper Room of Jerusalem" in one heart and in constant prayer (Acts 1: 12-14), becoming "burning bushes" in adoration and intercession (Leo XIII, Bl. Elena Guerra 1895-1897).

"Oh, if only...unanimous and fervent prayers could be raised to Heaven in every part of Christendom, as they were one in the Cenacle (upper room) of Jerusalem for a rekindling of the Divine Spirit" (Bl. Elena Guerra).

An invitation to respond to the call for New Evangelization in the power of the Holy Spirit and with His gifts, thereby spreading of the "culture of Pentecost" (Acts 1:8). To proclaim the Good News in the power of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:11).

Part I: VISION - MAY 2 - 10
OPERATION UPPER ROOM 2008

On the promptings of Bl. Elena at the end of the nineteenth century, Pope Leo XIII asked all the faithful to celebrate a solemn novena (9 days of prayer) perpetually between Ascension and Pentecost for the unity of Christianity.

The first well-spring of renewing action is prayer, which connects us with the Spirit of Christ who is "He who renews the face of the earth." (Bl. Elena Guerra)

Operation Upper Room 2008

Is a vision to unite as Catholic Charismatic Renewal, world-wide, in Novena Prayer Events, night and day, thereby weaving a dense global prayer network of adoration and intercession before Pentecost.

Part II: VISION - MAY 11
PENTECOST DAY CELEBRATION 2008

Special considerations for United States participation in Part II of Pentecost of the Nations, 2008

In 2008, Mother’s Day happens to fall on the same day as Pentecost.  For this reason, the National Service Committee recognizes that organizing large Pentecost events on Sunday might not be prudent.  For this reason, dioceses might choose to organize an event on Saturday, including or following the Pentecost Vigil Mass.  Or they might choose to organize a special Pentecost Celebration on the weekend prior to Pentecost or on the following weekend (within the octave of Pentecost).

At the same time, we encourage dioceses to begin planning for Pentecost 2009 and Pentecost 2010, to anticipate participation in the Pentecost of the Nations International Pentecost Day Celebration, as outlined in the description below.

The vision of Pentecost Day Celebration is a unique celebration organized by NSCs and Renewal realities in all nations of the earth testifying under the guidance of the Holy Spirit to the culture of Pentecost in the great charismatic family.

  • It is an occasion to unite and simultaneously evangelize in proclaiming the Good News of Jesus to many different countries of the world in the power of the Holy Spirit, so that many people will hear preaching in their own language about the marvels of God. (cf Acts 2:11)
  • It is a half day meeting consisting of a time of charismatic prayer, one or two short teaching, testimonies, solemn invocation of the Holy Spirit and a final concert to glorify God!
  • One celebration, many locations. An internet or satellite video link between all of the various celebrations to witnesses to the fact that the Catholic Charismatic world is truly praising God together, united in proclamation of the Good News to the ends of the earth in the power of the Holy Spirit!

This affords a chance for the world-wide National Service Committees and all other Renewal realities to collaborate in the mission of ICCRS. As well as a good opportunity to organize an official collection during the 10 days of events giving support to the service of ICCRS.
