Plan now to join with tens of thousands of other Catholics in fervent intercession “that the spirituality of Pentecost will spread for a new Culture of Pentecost in the Church for the New Evangelization.”
This is a response that the worldwide Catholic Charismatic Renewal offers to the desire expressed by Popes John Paul II, Benedict XVI and Francis – that the spirituality of Pentecost will spread in the Church for a new “Culture of Pentecost” (JPII, May 2004; Benedict XVI, Sept 2005; Francis, May 2013)
What can you do now that will mobilize fervent intercession during the 9 days of the Pentecost Novena, May 15-23 this year?
- You can forward this page to prayer group leaders, community leaders, pastors, individuals.
- You can coordinate nine different prayer groups or parishes to each organize one evening of the novena – and spread the word to encourage folks to attend the novena in each of the nine different locations.
- You can recruit people to commit to one hour of prayer for “night & day prayer” during the nine days of the Novena. This could be done on a local, regional or diocesan level.
If your prayer group, community or parish organize or participate in any kind of Pentecost Novena and/or Pentecost Celebration, please let us know, so that we can report on what is happening in the United States. If you need more information, please contact the Intercessory Prayer Working Group of the NSC Council by calling Virginia at: 206-214-5671 or email at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
The information below can also be downloaded (see promotion link) so that you may use to aid in planning, encouraging and promoting fervent intercession during the Pentecost Novena and Pentecost Celebration, May 15 through May 24th. Pentecost Novena Promotion
The Pentecost Novena…for a New Culture of Pentecost
“Oh, if only…unanimous and fervent prayers could be raised to Heaven in every part of Christendom as they were one in the Cenacle (upper room) of Jerusalem for a rekindling of the Divine Spirit.”
~Bl. Elena Guerra
Imagine what would happen if “unanimous and fervent prayers” were raised in every time zone in the world for nine days!
Imagine what would happen if we witnessed to the power of the Holy Spirit in every part of the world throughout the 24 hours of Pentecost Sunday!
Imagine what God could do if we united in prayer and celebration for a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit on our world!
Imagine our world transformed!
Part 1 – Together We Pray!
Operation Upper Room – May 15 – 23, 2015
“Operation Upper Room” is a concerted initiative of prayer during the nine days between Ascension Thursday and Pentecost Sunday. It is a return to the Upper Room, to intercede with Mary and the disciples for the rekindling of the grace of the first Pentecost, rediscovering the life and the gifts of the Holy Spirit, whose original source is Pentecost.
Individuals, prayer groups, communities, and parishes are all encouraged to pray a novena to the Holy Spirit for the intention “that the spirituality of Pentecost will be spread for a new Culture of Pentecost in the Church for the New Evangelization.” Intercessors will be united together weaving a dense global “net” of prayer which will be continuous, night and day, during the nine days before Pentecost (on national, regional and local levels). One suggested novena format is the Burning Bush Novena. www.burningbushinitiative.com
There is no mandatory structure for Pentecost of the Nations prayer nets or events – all are free to utilize whatever prayers and events are familiar and fruitful to you as an individual, group or community…
Part 2 – Together We Celebrate!
Pentecost Celebrations – May 23-24, 2015
You are encouraged to organize a special event in your community or group. In unity with others throughout the nation and the world, these events will each testify to the “spirituality of Pentecost” as part of the great Charismatic family. Here are some objectives to keep in mind when planning:
- Pentecost Celebration events provide a united witness and proclamation of the Good News of Jesus Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit to the ends of the earth. (Acts 1.8).
- Pentecost Celebration events may include charismatic prayer, praise & worship, short teachings, testimonies, a solemn invocation of the Holy Spirit and possibly a concert to glorify God!
Part 3 – Together we support Catholic Charismatic Renewal!
These Pentecost events provide a great chance to grow in unity with the mission of Catholic Charismatic Renewal at the local, national and international levels. They are also a good opportunity to organize an official collection during the 10 days of events to give financial support to your local Renewal office, to the National Service Committee and to the international office of ICCRS.
“Now to him who is able to accomplish far more than all we ask or imagine, by the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.” Eph 3:20-21
